Windows 10 Upgrade...early impressions

Got the Windows 10 Update today through the official push notification. The initial impressions are below...

The Upgrade Process
  1. For once instead of spamming the screen with a "Check back later" type message, the Upgrade notification indicated a "Congratulations. Please proceed with Windows 10 Upgrade".
  2. The Download process routed through Windows Update module was fairly smooth. The file size is 2.7GB and hence it is good to have a good broadband connection for hassle free download.
  3. Now come the tricky part. After downloading the Windows 10 image, the Windows Update went into a "Preparing for Upgrade" phase where it just seems to hang. I waiting for nearly couple of hours before I did a restart of the machine.
  4. Once restarted, I went back to the Windows 10 notification instead of the Windows Update module. Once here, noticed that the downloaded Win 10 file was thankfully intact and the status was marked as "Ready to Upgrade". I clicked on "Proceed to Upgrade" option on this and then went back to other work only to come back and see no trace of the Windows 10 upgrade!!! This happened quite a few times before finally got a message asking me to "Accept the Terms and Conditions".
  5. The Upgrade was fairly smooth once the Upgrade wizard kicked in....The typical restarts happen few time and the process took 2-3 hours.
Initial Impressions
  1. Operating System seems to be fairly fast. My laptop is loaded with Microsoft softwares including SQL Server, Analysis Services(and a dormant Reporting and Integration Services). On top of this I have Office 2013 documents/spreadsheets, IE and Chrome browser sessions, Visual Studio 2013 and 2015 Community edition. All of this on an Asus X200LA with 4GB DDR3 RAM!!!
  2. The Shutdown and Bootup time happen within a minute which was impressive considering all the softwares running. I even had the Microsoft Windows Defender Antivirus real time monitoring.
  3. The Bootime/Shutdown performance is almost on par with my Ubuntu 14.04 installation which does not have any of these additional softwares.

Will do more research and post the feedback in the coming days....In the meantime wish you all a great day!!!
